Sports Premium

All young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation and is central to meeting the government’s ambitions for a world-class education system.

Physical activity has numerous benefits for children and young people’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing (increasing self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and lowering anxiety and depression). Children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers.

At Regent Farm First School we have built a reputation as a school that encourages participation in sport and games. We are a school that sets high expectations for fair play, having respect for our opponents. Through determination and teamwork our children have excelled in a range of sports, winning several city wide tournaments over the past 5 years. We use PE and sports premium to stimulate our children’s curiosity in wide a wide variety of sports and games.

The Government give schools funding for physical education (PE) and school sport. Through what is known as a ‘Sport Premium’ the Government has provided funding to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools.

How we use the PE and sport premium

We use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the physical education (PE), physical activity and sport we provide.

We use the PE and sport premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sport that our school provides.
  • build capacity and capability within our school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.

The PE and sport premium aims to secure improvements in the following 5 key indicators.

  1. Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  2. Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
